Doropfiz, I know that things are often done this way in the health sector, for care assistants, nurses aides, and even foreign nurses, though this latter was just for two weeks.

In the Lausanne area, ambulance technicians are trained on the job, so before offering paid absence for training, the employer likes to see what they are getting, so to speak.

I fully agree that this kind of thing is open to abuse, so you have to be careful and get everything in writing.
