Yes importation is quite straight forward and the customs people are quite friendly and helpful (I speak for the Como border and for the Zurich office in Europabrucke that I have experience with). But some people need the time to realise what they're going to do with the cars they currently have, and straighten out whatever other thing they have.
The custom people are even so friendly to list all the procedures and forms you need for moving on their website. In plain English:
