I think most of these stories and claims of Christian intolerance in Europe and the USA are a bit overstated, to be honest. I managed to survive long enough in ultra-traditional rural Greece as an atheist without any problems whatsoever.

Of course, I kept my gob shut on the subject of religion and went along with local traditions, which probably helped. I should imagine someone with an axe to grind would have had a more 'interesting' experience.
