That is what I thought, and there is room for interpretation based on various traditions. In the case of today's Charlie Hebdo, the image is not used for worship. If anyone is attributing so much worth to it, its the extremists and terrorists who are closer to idolatry than the cartoonist. In the current issue, it satirically depicts an affectionate and compassionate Mohammad empathizing with victims of violence done in his name. That is far more elevated than the angry, vengeful Mohammad the same Muslims represent him as. So where is the Islamic crime here?
