Re: Birth Certificate for a new born Indian Baby in Zurich

Our baby was born here, but we are on B permit and in Kanton Aargau. I can share our experience.

Both parents need a birth certificate from their place of birth, not older than 6 months. They do not care what Indian law states, this is the law here, and you need to abide by that. Make sure all your details on the certificate correspond correctly to the details in the passport.

We didn't get the birth certificate attested by the Embassy or MEA, but they encourage to do so, else they retain the original certificates with them, and you need to pay 32 Fr per certificate to get them back. The other documents you need are:

Marriage certificate- original

Please note the certificates need to be in English, not in the regional language.

Permit- both parents

Passport- both parents.

We submitted these documents at the hospital and received the birth certificate a week later without any hassle. It's just a matter of keeping everything ready before the baby comes.

Hope this helps.
