Re: L permits and library cards (or lack thereof)

Zentralbibliothek in Zürich was the place I went for applying the library card. Later I sent one mail to them to ask if I could apply for a card with my confirmation of employment letter and they replied no. But they said that

"The Zentralbibliothek is open to the general public and you are welcome to come by and consult the books that are located in the open stacks of the library without registration. To request books from the closed stacks, you can register for a day card, which can be made valid until the end of your stay, despite its name. Please bring an official ID and refer to the information desk on the second floor. Books from the closed stacks, that are requested with a day card, are made available within an hour and can be read in the library."

No very helpful but it seems at least I can access some books there.
