That's not actually true. There were a lot of assumptions in the past that have since been proved wrong and most 'real' experts seem to basically agree.

Of course some internet based 'experts' wishing to peddle their wares are going to do their best to convince you to follow their diet so you buy their 'magic potions' or videos or books.

Do people who follow, for example, a gluten-free diet who don't have an allergy lose weight because they don't eat gluten or do they actually lose weight because they don't eat cakes, donuts, cookies and battered-fried food which contain gluten?
