If your seat will not fit properly and your elder child is less than two years old, they cannot sit on their own seat.

The airline is ultimately responsible for your safety, and if you cannot comply with the safety rules, they will simply refuse you boarding. All the anecdotes in the world won't change that. It'll be you stood crying at the gate, not some random from the Internet.

If you merely want people to side with you, then fine; go for it. Tell them mirfield said it'd be no problem.

Otherwise, get an approved seat or make other arrangements (it might be cheaper and simpler to fly with another person who will look after the toddler).
