Going for the post that will get a ton of groans but will say it all the same :

because laws cannot and will not change the way people think. All too often (not just in Switzerland) when animals are (ab)used is a backward mentality of "animals are here to serve us, humans" ... sorry but when I hear of animals being exploited for PHOTOS (it's not like they are bringing water to a school in a remote village) I get rather angry...

All the wealth will not make up for kindness and compassion. And clearly laws don't either...

Thanks for the details, MC - sad as they are it's best to know about these things....
