To cook paneer dishes, we get cheese from the fresh cheese counters in Migros called Ziegenkase/Magerkase. It tastes similar to paneer and does not melt when fried or when cooked with gravy. The cheese is usually available in large Migros stores having the fresh cheese section like the one in MParc Dreispitz or in Migros Claramarkt (both in Basel). I have not seen it in smaller stores.

It costs about 1.2 CHF per 100 gms (cheap compared to other stores) and one can buy as much as one needs.
