You don't need a long-standing relationship with a bank to get a good mortgage.
Online services seem to have the best rates and they
couldn't care less which bank you use as long as you meet the requirements (my current rate with homegate is 0.92% on a 7-year term).

The only potential advantage of a local bank would be to provide the valuation once you find something you want to buy.
