Upon termination, is compensation received for 13th month salary? In other words, if the employee is terminated, does the employer owe the 13th month salary divided by the portion of the year that the employee worked?

unless the 13th is a voluntary contribution, which in CH it usually isn't, then it is part of your salary and hence to be paid pro-rata. If you have a bonus agreement then these are paid pro-rata as well - even if targets have not been met.
