Who is paying for the move? Honestly I wouldn't bother with much. If you already have something you're attached to that's fine, but if you want to import without duty fees you'll need to own it for 6 months before you come anyway. Shopping new would probably be out.

Due to the voltage issues, we sold almost everything and bought new here. We didn't feel like having transformers all over the place, and electronics aren't necessarily any cheaper in the U.S. than they are here. We did bring our blender, which we use with a small transformer in the kitchen.
