The consultants that I have worked with in this field have BOTH academic qualifications (usually Profs) as well as years of working for Government Health Authorities on the one side, or own their own HE companies (often spin-offs from universities), with people like you doing the heavy lifting, modelling and calculations and publications.

However, it's your call and career. If you feel you can compete, then great and good luck.
Thanks man, I already have a lot of positive replies from interested companies ..... again, my question was about a salary not if I would succeed
