In fact the world was a lot more peaceful in 2003; Iraq and Afghanistan were the big ones plus some very minor actions in Liberia, Georgia and Djibouti.

Now we have Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria and Yemen plus lots of smaller actions in Philippines, Ukraine, Libya, Niger, Mexico and more.
I can't find hard data to refute your point so I'll conceed that today there might be more conflicts and casualities than in 2003.

However - there is no aparthy when the US/UK is invloved, even thru proxies. Yemen is a good examples - there many calls for arms embargo on Saudi Arabia, no such calls in Syria.
