Turkey/Kurds - Turkey doesn't want a Kurdish state on it's borders. Such a state could inspire kurds in Turkey to demand more rights, maybe even change Turkish borders. However, sending the Turkish army to fight outside Turkey is risky. such wars are rarely quick and painless.

Turkish army has been crossing the Iraqi border so many years now. what is happening in Syria is not so new. Plus, the distance of Afrin is not that far from Turkey.

I for one would have preferred that Erdogan never intervened with Syria in the first place, then the turkish army wouldn't have the need to cross the border. Erdogan has played a major role in destabilizing his own country.
