From the end of September, Zurich cantonal police, together with Zurich Airport, are planning to launch an automatic control procedure with biometric identification, a report by the Zurich Tages-Anzeiger newspaper on Friday revealed. At eight so-called "Automated Border Control" (ABC) locks, arriving passengers must then insert their biometric passport into a scanner and place their face in a camera that is part of a biometric control system of the Dutch security technology provider Gemalto. ABC systems are also available at other European airports such as Amsterdam-Schiphol or London's Heathrow Airport.
