It is a bit of a strange request when you think about it.
You can get married in any country and this would not necessarilly be registered in the UK.
When I got my Swiss citizenship I had already got married in the Stadthaus and just provided a divorce certificate from the first UK marriage - so it was easy. But who was to know if I had been married in the middle in Africa or Asia?
It is good that they just accept your word with a Notar. Money talks.
