It may just be semantics to you, but to the judicial system, it's essential to what happens next, and in deciding if he be sent to a high security psychiatric hospital or will he stand trial and be held accountable.
'Mentally ill' should not be used to describe every person who commits an evil act. It demonises people who genuinely have a mental illness, and absolves criminals.
