Xylitol - deadly to dogs

Xylitol, a sugar free sweetener, is deadly to dogs, even in very small amounts.

It is used a lot in sugar free gum, sweets, mints, by diabetics etc. It's gaining popularity due to its low calorie count compared to sugar.

Apparently the usual issue is the sugar free gum tablets that are left around, in pockets, handbags etc, and the dog gets them.

Also, when used for baking and the dogs get the cakes etc.

So if you have a dog that's a scavenger, something else to keep your eyes open for.
