I think this is a prime example of the empty rhetoric which the government is using to try to sell whatever deal they have on the table at any given time.
There is no "point" in leaving because nobody has been able to give even a hint of what the future may bring, never mind whether there is anything positive to salvage from it.
Empty. Vague. Rhetoric.
