For example, I am Dutch. Netherlands has the best pension system in the world. Why on earth would the Dutch choose to be in a pension system together with the southern European countries?
Netherlands has the 3rd best state pension in the World. Top spot goes to Croatia. The top 10 are:

1. Croatia 129% of a working wage
2. Turkey
3. Netherlands
4. India
5. Portugal
6. Italy
7. Austria
8. Argentina
9. Hungary
10. Bulgaria

Plenty of southern European countries in the top 10. The bottom three are Mexico, UK and South Africa. So, the 6th biggest economy in the World has the 2nd worst state pension scheme! Disgraceful

Way back in 1981-83, when I was doing General Studies at college, the best state pension in Europe was Italy, and the best maternity pay was Hungary (by a very, very long way).
