Should be easy to prove. Surely statistics are available for f the number of people who renounce party membership in any given year. Is that figure up, down, or about the same as usual?
Not all voters are affiliated with a political party, so it would be hard to say that any changes are a result of loving or hating Trump.

For example, some states have closed primaries. That is, one must be affiliated with a political party in order to vote in the primary election. At least some people register as Republican or Democrat in order to vote in a primary, but immediately change registration to independent or unaffiliated after. It helps cut down on all the political spam mails and robo-calls.
