Re: Rent a house near a lake

Agreed. I've never seen anything close to that type of architecture or finished style here. I'd be curious to know if you could even find one to rent - at any price.
A colleague wanted to build a large 'North American' style house. He interviewed many architects, but couldn't find one willing/able to build in the style he wanted. He then compromised on trying to build a moderate Swiss Landhaus - still no architect willing/able. (Altmodisch! they all cried...) He ended up with a soulless concrete box, the only thing it seems anyone builds anymore.

Such a shame, as the concrete box strikes a particularly jarring note on his otherwise beautiful piece of land. An 'altmodisch' house would have been lovely...

To the OP - what is your question trying to get at?

The single greatest factor in house pricing is not the style of home, nor even the size of the home, but rather the location. (Which canton, city, lake?) You won't get any sensible answers without giving more info.

If you are trying to compare housing standards between what is readily available in Canada/US vs Switzerland... you are in for a shock.
