Re: Bye bye Billag [Welcome our new overlord Serafe]

Well, control was fairly tight. When you bought a new set, the retailer was obliged to transmit your cooordinates to the PTT. If you replaced your receiver, bought another one, or connected it to an external antenna, you were also supposed to inform the PTT, although I expect that few listeners did that.

This control continued into the start of the satellite broadcasting age. When I installed my first parabolic antenna in 1987, I had to get a special licence from the PTT (costing an extra CHF 96 per annum, plus CHF 25 for registration) after providing them with full details of the latitude, longitude and altitude of the location, the diameter of the antenna and its height above the ground, frequency coverage, modulation type and bandwidth, class of emission and receiver performance in dB/K.
