If you live in Switzerland, you are not allowed to rent a car in France.

Wrong! If you are registered as a legal resident in Switzerland you are prohibited from driving a foreign-plated vehicle in Switzerland.

My husband lived in Switzerland and drove a car in Switzerland hired from Basel Airport (French side) with French plates, however he was not legally resident here, so we could take advantage of the price difference and save money.
But what has this got to do with the OP who will be resident here in Switzerland?
