Apartment key in the (unlocked) mailbox?

Hello everyone,

we received keys for our newly rented, long-term apartment in Switzerland. Apartment is still largely empty since we still didn't move in, and there is still no name plate on our mailbox. The rental agency (landlord) called us and asked us to leave 1 apartment key in the mailbox, because a handy man will come to do some work in the apartment. They also told us that key should be left in the mailbox for at least 5 to 6 days because handyman will come several times.

We are concerned about a possibility of theft, because we are responsible for our apartment's keys (apartment key can unlock main building's entrance, as well as other doors to communal areas). But it looks like the rental agency does not see any problem with this.

Is this considered safe, and is this standard practice in Switzerland?

Our mailbox is in front of the building, and consists of the locked and unlocked compartment - should we leave the key in the unlocked compartment? Because handyman certainly does not have our mailbox key.
