Re: Moving to Zurich

Always check that pets are allowed when looking at a rental property. You can check on these websites and they have a filter for pets allowed which helps.

www.immoscout24.ch
www.immostreet.ch
www.homegate.ch
www.home.ch

I'd leave your stuff behind to bring over later if you decide you need it because it's very unlikely you're going to get something permanent quickly. Many rental contracts here are tied to specific "official" moving dates which are only 2 or 3 times a year. You'd have to check for Zurich's ones, but here in Fribourg canton the official dates are 31st March and 30th September so moving is geared around those dates. 30th June is another so you might be able to get a temp place when you arrive and then arrange to move into something permanent around then. That's not to say people don't move outside of these dates, but your choice of properties might be more limited.

The above sites have options to look for furnished apartments so that might be an alternative to hotels.

The other problem is you'll need to be in one place for several weeks if not a couple of months to be able to get the residence permit you'll need to be able to live/work here. If not a rental contract then a letter or something from the place you're staying to say you're going to be there until such and such a date.
