Re: Moving to Zurich

My wife and I just relocated from Seattle and it wasn't all that bad. We came out a few weeks ago and did a home hunting tour in which we saw probably 8 or 9 properties and applied to 2. Luckily we met the owner of one the day we saw it and had a nice connection. She immediately accepted our application (w/a small dog) and we've moved in a couple weeks later on the day we arrived back in Zurich (Thalwil).

The list of homes we were going to look at changed on what seemed to be a daily basis, with homes being rented as fast as they came on the market but new ones did pop up in the same fashion.

A note of caution though - you must be present to tour the home. Renting sight unseen is not allowed here and showing appointments are typically only on week days. As our relocation agent put it, the real estate/leasing agents just don't care enough to work on the weekends.

Fear not though, it can be done if you have your affairs in order and a little luck. We arranged for our community documents appointment after moving and we're checking in with the city to register tomorrow.
