Hang on... a mainstream political party - a party which until recently had formed the government - deliberately commits an act of deception through a recognised means of mass communication, and you dismiss it with a wave of the hand just like that?

The Conservative Party deliberately attempted to mislead the voting public. The Conservative Party: not the Socialist Workers Party or the British National Party, but the Conservative Party.

This is the reason so many erstwhile conservatives have turned away from the party. It has been hijacked. It is no longer the party we thought it was. Maybe - in retrospect - it never was.

They'll certainly never get my vote again.
It was a daft gimmick that was noticed and challenged almost immediately. Any regular user of Twitter would have known this would be the outcome, which was likely the strategy as it gets people talking. Itís irked journalists because they (misguidedly) believe that they are the defenders of truth when they have their political agendas and are as economical with the truth as everybody else. The Twitterati have enjoyed their latest moment of indignation, as have many on this forum it seems.
