Re: Renting in France, Geneva Area

Fortunately in my case it turned out the company who were relocating me were nice enough to pay for a relocation agency (Swiss-based but operating in both countries - Activerelo.ch) to do the searching and admin for me.
They have been very good and I was able to find a place within a week of being here. It took 3 weeks to sort out the paperwork and another 2 weeks to sort out the utilities once I'd signed. As the agency did most of the work for me, I can't be that helpful, but my tips would be:

- Apartments are much much easier to find than houses
- The pace of the market is very fast (50% of my scheduled viewings were cancelled the day-of due to the places no longer being available)
- If you see a place you like, make it known as soon as possible
- Have all the required documents ready to go.
- Both seloger.co.uk and immostreet.co.uk are very useful (the .co.uk bit gives you the English versions, use the .com equivalent to see the French versions).
- Visit the big estate agencies (Foncia, Century 21...) and make your situation known

Best of luck.
