Being an active citizen requires to get pissed (drunk)!

I just LOVE this yearly event in our village called "Les voeux de la Commune" (Commune's new year's wishes), where the mayor and the municipal council will welcome all the new families in the commune, all youngsters turning 18 in the year are welcome as full, active citizens, we get a quick recap of the budget and projects for 2020...then it's free wine and food for everyone, as much as you can eat and drink!
Every wine producer in the village (we've got 5!), every café, restaurant, the bakery, the pig farmer..., all get subsidised to provide the food and drinks for the evening, we all get to discover and taste their latest produce, the councillors each stand by a wine barrel labelled with their specialty (budget, transport, education, environment...) so we can go and chat to them with any question, queries we may have in an informal setting... what a wonderful way to feel integrated and part of the local life...but everyone tried very hard to make me appreciate their wine, I am a little pissed, tbh, but it's all for the good cause and part of my integration!
