Yep, and they had professional firefighters assessing the potential risks, with the right to call it off if the wind made it dangerous.

As for the money, which some people claimed could be better spent helping those affected by the fires, the amount spent on the fireworks was tiny compared to the amount tourists brought in, which enters the economy and helps everyone - they also had places where you could donate money to fire relief work directly.
