Investment instead of Property Downpayment

I heard it from some people, and also read here in EF, that if you have X francs, paying that as the downpayment for a property in Switzerland is not financially optimal. Is that true?

Suppose I want to invest just enough money that pays off my 2000 CHF flat rent. How much capital do I need? What are the options?

What if I want my investment to be as "cancellable" as possible? What are the typical rules, limitations, and fees associated with withdrawal requests in such schemes? Any place I can start reading in English?
