Re: Receiving family reunification visa in USA: via mail or in-person required?

Good evening EF,

I just received word that the GR cantonal migration authorities have approved a family reunification visa for my wife (US citizen). She lives more than 500km from the Swiss consulate in New York City, which is the consulate responsible for the state where she resides.

Does anyone know whether family reunification visas can be issued by the consulate via mail/Fedex? Or is an in-person visit required? If anyone has had firsthand experience of receiving this type of visa in the US, it would be great to hear about it. The FAQ on the US Swiss Embassy website is less than clear.

Thank you.
Dave
Let's be clear. The GR authorities have granted your wife a family reunification permit. What she needs to do is send her passport to the embassy so they can stamp a Type D entry visa into it. This allows her to enter Switzerland for more than 90 days. Once here, she'll need to go to your gemeinde and fill in the paperwork to get the pre-approved permit issued to her.
