| The system where I am from makes stem majors take humanities courses and vice versa, the clear distinction stem/hum is no longer there, hasn't been maybe 15 years or more. I camped out at both since my degrees are so transdisciplinary. It is a general trend.

Did you attend university in the US? When I went to university more than 40 years ago everyone had to meet “distribution requirements” humanities, social sciences, and languages in addition to science.
My post was referring to a negative comment further up about “liberal arts”. You need preparation across the board.
I’ve just never heard of a parent living in student housing...not sure if students are considered adults at 18 or 21. The university ought to be responsible to some degree if the housing is university owned. I realize university housing and campuses are different in Europe.
