Is that also true if the recipient officially put the mail on hold?

I thought that for example if you received a bill while on holiday, if the mail is on hold the due date is extended until after your mail hold expires. Thus why I've always made sure to put the mail on hold. I don't have a source for this though so it could be wrong.
