We also had this padded cardboard and it's a bu***r to remove. Done professionally they use steam and charge a fortune!

But why do you want to remove it? You can just remove the wallpaper and repaper over it. You'll likely find the wallpaper comes off very easily. In our case we (well the mrs actually!) wanted to have the walls painted instead so with a lot of elbow grease, scraping and hot water she, a friend and the painter did it manually.

From memory we had a ridiculous quote of about CHF12,000 for the removal and paying the friend + the painters hours it cost about CHF1,500.
