Power is nice because it makes the car (and the trips) feel effortless.

The argument "the speed limit is 120, why do you need anything that is faster than that" is clearly reductive. If I need 1 minute to get to a normal speed, that is clearly annoying.

That being said, BMW offers quite a bit of range between the two extremes you're discussing. I would also like to point out that the idea of a sporty SUV is quite absurd and just makes it uncomfortable without gaining much.

If you want a sportier experience, get a nice sporty sedan like a 3 series.
If you want a fast SUV, just get a bigger diesel engine, and it will have some pace, without the harsh suspension.
If you want a "sport SUV", you're going to get something that feels sporty in all the wrong ways
