I do not think it's about double taxation. You are still employee of given company until contract is due (3-months) and you may ask company that you are on the termination period to release you and that results in not-paying you. That would allow you to start with the new company.

You also may inform your current company (and it's perhaps better idea) that you are undertaking second job with given company that is not competitive to your current employer and it's just that - information. Current employer may object based on some grounds (like you be tired and can't work 100% for them) but than again - you are on gardening leave I understand and been asked not to show up in office ?
