It's very exposed, especially the trajet over to the main part, so they do close it much more frequently, and even just for snow.
No, but I've spent more hours than I care to think about on Klein Matterhorn... which I'm fairly certain is more exposed and gets much worse weather. They'll open up there unless it really isn't possible to run the lifts (and if the lift isn't running you definitely don't want to be up there). That said, Zermatt will do anything to keep the cash coming in Maybe Glacier 3000 aren't so money grabbing
