Re: Driving from Zurich to Locarno - sightseeing rest stop suggestions

In Küssnacht visit the Hohle Gasse. The place where Guillaume Tell assassinated Landvogt Gessler.

If you are not in a rush the drive from Küssnacht along the shore of Lake Lucerne to Brunnen is very scenic (but also a bit curvy).

Once you are on the Axenstrasse get out at Tellsplate. Walk town to the lake, and ring the bells.

Instead of using the motorway, you keep on the old main road an drive through Altdorf and visit the Tell monument.
https://www.uri.swiss/en/erlebnisse/...tell-monument/ If you are on the motorway get out at the rest stop Gotthard.

If you drive over Gotthardpass one stop should be the "Devil's Bridge" in the Schöllenen Gorge and the large Suworow Monument

On top of Gotthard you can visit which was once considered top secret and the backbone of the Swiss alpine fortification: Sasso San Gottardo.

Down to Airolo the most scenic way is the old cobble stone road: The Tremola. A long the way you will see the old bunker, the little Suworow Monument, the old ACS-Phonebox, and if you are lucky a historic Gotthard stagecoach pulled by five horses.

Now someone from the Ticino can point out some highlights in the Leventina, a good Grotto, what to see in Bellinzona, and if going up to the Verzasca dam is a good idea.
