My wife works in Bern and I in Zurich. We have an apartment in Bern, and just got a second one in Zurich. Can we register any of the two as our primary address? If not, what decides what Canton we are considered to live in? It is important to know for us, as the difference in taxes is quite large.

If 1 of you can justify using a car then the milage deduction is potentially huge, I don't know if this was capped there was talk of it. I worked part time in Geneva whilst living in ZH, I could deduct 404 CHF daily milage allowance from income.
