FWIW we renewed our C permits in Valais last month, copies of passports were needed, confirmation of employment (was a copy of a contract, plus recent payslips) for my wife, debt register but no criminal record extract, no language certificate.

Edit: Actually, now I come to think about it, she downloaded a certificate of employment from their HR system.
