So the airline is checking, and not even the airline but the company the airline has hired to do check-ins?

What if I was an employee of a UK business, and I said I was travelling to Geneva for business meetings? I wouldn't have a work permit (as I live in the UK) and I wouldn't have my work contract, probably signed a decade or so ago.

And frankly why would they care about people leaving the UK. It may be problematic returning but ...
