Even a lot of ardent Europhiles can see the EU is insufficiently Democratic . A President who wields significant power who is unelected. The only elected body having very little power.

If a developing part of the world had a Von Der Leyen the West would call them a dictator. How can the people get rid of her if they think she's done a bad job? They can't

Yes I know she's "indirectly elected", but so is President Xi. It's not enough. Not a personal attack on her - just the rotten system that views the electorate as something to be bypassed.
