I'm not at all surprised. We've crossed over the border here in Morgins quite a few times in the last month, and there has been no evidence of increased vigilance from either Swiss or French customs. Indeed, in all the time we've been here, we've never see French douanes at the border, only once or twice a km or so into France, but never been stopped by them.

Apparently on the first few days of the ski area opening there were police stopping French cars coming over for day-skiing as per the rules they brought in before xmas, but that seems now to have been relaxed (in practice) as well.
