I believe you have to present 3 solvent candidates and if the landlord rejects all 3, then the contract can be cancelled.

You can't be sent to jail, so no worries there.

Talk to your landlord. He may be sympathetic. Offer to pay a one month penalty and he may let you go, especially when he realises it may be futile trying to come after you.
