Not just older people who need that - neither me nor my wife can drive. I have a licence but haven't driven since passing my test.

UK is very variable. Some cities (e.g. Bristol) have non-existent public transport. but its very good in my home city (Newcastle).

Good in Newcastle - great news. And beyond? To the villages? I certainly know that in the South and the Midlands, buses are no very limited (never mind trains and Beeching in the 50s) - and none run in the evenings even where there are some.

Honestly AbFab ''He explained that his elderly customers came in with their bills and withdrew the cash to cover them, then proceeded to cross the road to the Post Office to pay the bills with cash.'' don't be so bloody patronising (rare, for you, thank goodness).
