Re: Dutch oven - casserole dish

(That's "Cocotte" in French, "Schmortopf" in German.)

Does anyone here use those heavy and pricey yet widely-admired cast-iron pots? Are they Le Creuset or other brand? Where did you buy them? Are they really better than an ordinary stock pot?

Thanks in advance.
I could choose one piece of cooking equipment for my entire kitchen, it would be a cast-iron enamelled dutch oven. It's a frying pan, a saucepan, a slow cooker etc.

Le Creuset are really overpriced and unnecessary unless you get a really good deal on them. Buy from Amazon, you want one with a capacity of between between 5L and 6L. Here is a list of those available from Amazon UK, rated 4* or more, sorted by highest rating (they are called casserole dishes or dutch ovens):

Casserole dishes https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=cassero...erial_browse_2

Dutch ovens https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=dutch+o...f=sr_nr_p_72_1

I have a Denby. It's got a chip or two in the enamel and paint through usage over the last couple of years, but still in good condition.
